How to clean a pet water fountain (and how often to change the filter)

A pet water fountain needs regular care. The correct cleaning method and filter schedule depend on the model, so start with the instructions supplied with your fountain.

Before cleaning

Switch the fountain off and disconnect charging equipment. Identify which parts the manual allows you to remove and wash. Keep electronic components and charging ports dry; do not assume that a pump or battery unit can be rinsed or submerged.

Your everyday routine

• Check the water and drinking surface regularly, and refresh drinking water rather than relying on a filter to keep it fresh indefinitely.
• Follow the manual’s instructions for cleaning removable parts and reassembly.
• Keep another source of drinking water available while the fountain is being cleaned or charged.

When should the filter be replaced?
